Hefsek Taharah

Hefsek Taharah is a central Halachic step before Shivah Nekiyim. A digital calendar must distinguish between a day on which a Hefsek may be performed and a Hefsek that was actually performed and recorded.

When do Shivah Nekiyim begin?

Shivah Nekiyim begin on the day after a valid Hefsek Taharah, subject to the applicable minimum wait and Minhag. Waiting rules and exceptional cases are not identical in every community or circumstance, so an individual rule should not be inferred from language, country or date alone.

How does TaharaSmart present this stage?

The calendar can show when a Hefsek may be performed according to the selected supported Minhag profile and available facts. Merely displaying that option does not record a completed Hefsek. Only after the user reports a successful Hefsek Taharah is it stored as a fact on which the next stage can be calculated.

What if a Hefsek has not yet been performed?

If the earliest relevant date passes without a valid Hefsek being recorded, TaharaSmart does not begin Shivah Nekiyim merely because time has passed. The calendar continues to reflect the previous stage until an appropriate Hefsek is saved.
